Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This marks his initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since that period of that year.
The win also means he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

He defended 4 initial break points in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
