A man who contaminated candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males who were between nine and ten.
The defendant was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepson had worries about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said objects including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his worries.
She said Ruben continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member called the police again.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
